Boarded Franny this morning (her first time without a dog sibling) and hit the road for the State Fair in Des Moines. just in case you don’t know…evenings at the state fair are where young girls in their off white lacy dresses and cowboy boots go to be seen. If you are into people watching, the state fair is a smorgasbord!
Kate and Adam met us there. My youngest daughter gets more beautiful every time I see her!
We saw our family’s beloved Budweiser Clydesdale horses and beer wagon. Someday I’ll share pictures of my dad’s 17 year hobby/project. It is a 6 foot long Budweiser team made of clay and wood, etc.
We saw the local band, Slipstream, that we follow whenever we can even though we live in Missouri…and we were totally impressed with the 25 foot American Gothic statue on the fairgrounds. Was a good day. I ended it with a corn dog while drooling as Adam ate deep fried orios.
Until next time…..
That woman you are sitting with in the 2nd to last picture seems almost wooden. Was she all right? Perhaps she had been at the fair too long.
Didn’t get to the fair this year. Too much going on at work…like me being the only one there…thought seriously about quitting once or twice this week. I probably could. I just hate the idea of buying my own health insurance though.
I have to go to Betty Shiver’s funeral now (Ron’s Mom). Later

I was mildly concerned about her…but she was so genuine, I just wanted to talk to her! The BEST thing I ever did was retire young! But I had been a public employee for 30 years so I had the luxury…plus Helen left me a nest age to invest so I don’t have to worry as much about the future. Us only children do have some advantages…your retirement is looming around the corner. Hang on…it is worth it!

I just noticed the weird scene at the bottom of the blog page. It is what you might call dark Dr. Suess…Whoville in shadow… or maybe something from a Tim Burton film. Kind of spooky
Also, Brent and his wife were at the funeral and asked if I ever heard from you. I told him you and P moved to MO…he did not understand why. I said, “I think it has to do with a daughter and a grandbaby”. That answer seemed to satisfy him.
I am really wanting out of my job…maybe I could quit at the end of the year and stack cans at Hy Vee or something. I love Hy Vee. I could live there I think.

That sounds like a wonderful day. You’re right on your daughter, but I let’s not fail to point out that you seem to be making some changes as well. You’re looking good Nina!
