Living most of my life in the anti-firecracker state, I must say my first 4th of July in the Show Me State has shocked me. Not only is it legal to set off fireworks July 1 through July 4th, there are large tents all over the place selling fireworks…as fundraisers. Imagine what the Newton Band Boosters could have done with that possibility. I didn’t get a picture of one set up along 50 highway between Pleasant Hill and Lee’s Summit but there is the large tent along with a fire department ladder truck sporting a huge American flag. As I approached it the first time, it looked like what I’m used to seeing to honor fallen soldiers, firemen and police officers.

Apparently I just needed to get out more.
