If you are getting tired of my rhetorical rants, please disregard this one. I used the word “miffed” today. One of my young bucks with a badge hadn’t heard it before. Am I an old woman…or is this a word that isn’t used??? I am a little miffed that you are sitting on my davenport instead of worshin the winda beside the chester drawers>
Finally a relief from the weather. We need a day to recharge before it hits again next weekend.
Until next time….
It’s the first time the Saints have been to the Super Bowl….that is why everyone says they are rooting for them to win the Super Bowl…are you kidding me…somehow that just seems silly and very sensitive and unmacho for football fans. I can’t think that would be the reason, say, if it were Cleveland or Detroit or Houston…those supporting the Saints are doing it either because of the floods and it makes us feel like we are good people and have done something if we support the New Orleans team or because Drew Brees really is a stud…I can buy that…but why…and why not the epitome of mother, apple pie, baseball and the American dream Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts… America’s football royalty taking it all of the way.
My pronunciations get made fun of a lot…including the words and phrases I learned from my mother…you all remember the whole “davenport” thing…and then the pit group name which I had to continue to explain…I have no idea why my Iowa people say Missouruh rather than Missouree…or…am I wrong?? I try to refrain from saying Oh my God…every now and then it sneeks out…it is very ingrained in us and OMG is just the same thing – we all know what it means..does God take offense at his name being used this way…now the Iowa lottery has a new game, OMG…I can’t believe the religious fanatics haven’t burned the lottery building down… Back in my radio days – commercial radio – the guy who owned the bike shop in town requested that I not do his commercials because I could not say cyclery – I probably can’t spell it either…I still am not sure how to pronouce it is it cycle ree or cy cleree. I finally got over realty – realizing it isn’t reality…or is it??
He and I walked over to the new house last night during a nice quiet, beautiful, windless, heavy snowfall…I turned to him and said – now this is the kind of snow that I love…which I thought later must be what people mean when they say…Oh…I wouldn’t want to move somewhere warm because I would miss the seasons…I mean no disrespect, but I just need to say this…WHAT!! ARE YOU NUTS. The seasons here are hot or cold…or both in one day…everyone talks about it – OMG give us a nice day in the 70’s and everyone walks around like peacocks and comments on how nice the day is. You are either freezing your petutie off – and I mean freezing or it is so humid it takes your breath away and old people drop like flies here in Iowa. We complain if the snow and cold comes too early and then really bitch if we go right from 25 below to 89 and say – I guess we are going to miss spring this year. Miss the seasons???
Well, I’ve got things to do…so I guess I had better start doing them or I’ll have to come up with some long story about why they aren’t done when “he” wakes up.
Until next time….
So…there is a commercial on the radio for something going on at the Iowa Event Center…. E vent center…not uhvent center…it is drives me nuts every time I hear it…where did UH vent center come from?
I’m curious if it is just rural Iowa, …do people drive down the two lane roads in your area and lift their finger off the steering wheel in order to greet you with a wave of the finger. On my way into town today, right after I heard the uhvent center commercial, I had an older gentleman give me the one-finger-off-the-wheel greeting and I started wondering….
I have a friend who always says vuhcation…now while I always notice it, I can’t say it is any “wronger” than saying vAcation…we don’t say vAccum so why don’t we say va(small a) cation?
That is all that is on my mind tonight. It is just a simple little cell.
Until next time….
My official promotion day today…now Dispatch Supervisor. Not sure how it feels yet. will be a working supervisor meaning I will have a regular shift on the console as well as supervisor duties. I haven’t lifted up my bangs yet to see what is written on my forhead.
