I had 10,106 footprints from California yesterday.  I am in the thinking process of closing this account and going somewhere else.  I hate to do it…it will depend on the response from Xanga people.  Anyone else experience this?

  1. Excellent issues totally, you only gained a fresh audience. What would people advocate in regards to your create that you simply produced few days in the past? Any convinced?

  2. that happened to me a while back.  I set all my privacy to friends only and don’t allow rss feeds and dont allow indexing and my xanga is all a bunch of “no’s” and a couple of yes’s thrown in.  It stopped then.  I also blocked a couple of user names – I think the same person – who were way too interested in me and would peruse my friends list and stalk them – I think to read al of my comments on their sites.  One in particular was completely bizarre.  The others were just too initially overly friendly for my mood at the time.  I know that must sound terrible.

  4. Isn’t there something about allowing an RS feed or something? Seems like a long time ago I disallowed it and stopped getting the footprints. So if I talk about pine trees and someone googles pine trees, my site doesn”t show up in the search.

  5. It’s the gubmint. Put on your tinfoil hat and use public wifi connections only on the Ipad. Check outside, watch for black helicopters and listen for strange clicking on your phone connections. Is anyone at work seeming overly friendly or interested in your personal life? Have you noticed strange cars following you? Do the pets seem to be talking about you or stop their conversations when you enter a room? The footprints may not originate from California. That could just be the routing point to you. It could even be coming from the next room. Trust no one. Destroy all evidence you were ever here. Then…disappear. Go to Belize. Watch for the man in the red hat. HE WILL BE THE ONE. Offer him a cigar and three piano teeth. Then fetch the barkwater and the slimy straw upside down in the dining room full of mirrors and roast pork. That’s when you’ll find it. Do you understand now? Good. I’D HATE TO HAVE TO GO OVER THAT AGAIN. You do know what I mean right? the china pattern is all wrong for the galloshes. Fernbank is in the desert palm nut remington. I can’t say anymore. I have to go. It’s starting to hail.

  8. I only had that happen to me once and Xanga said it was a bug in the server. Not literally of course. At least I assume not literally.

  9. @skanickadee – Okay…I must be extra dense today. Why would bots need to visit a site 10,000 times? What do they get out of it???

  12. @Ninasusan – @suzyQ_darnit – From wikipedia –Internet bots, also known as web robots, WWW robots or simply bots, are software applications that run automated tasks over the Internet. Typically, bots perform tasks that are both simple and structurally repetitive, at a much higher rate than would be possible for a human alone. The largest use of bots is in web spidering, in which an automated script fetches, analyzes and files information from web servers. Bots may also be implemented where a response speed faster than that of humans is required (e.g., video gaming bots and auction-site robots) or less commonly in situations where the emulation of human activity is required, for example chat bots. Recently bots have been used for search advertising, such as Google AdSense.[1]

  13. I haven’t looked at footprints in awhile so I checked them out.I don’t why you are getting all those footprints. Are they from the same user? Why not just click on block user if it is not someone you don’t know?Is everything slow or just Xanga? Because if everything is slow then maybe and ISP issue or a virus. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to run a virus scan. Maybe you should even change your Xanga password.

  18. Do you know how to set your privacy settings? My question would be how would a different site give you more privacy? The thing is if you want your site open enough that non Xanga members (your friends from facebook) can read your site, it is just open for everyone to see it. I don’t think any other site can do much better. I doubt you will hear from Xanga. Unless they have done something threatening, looking at your site won’t be considered a problem.

  20. Instead of leaving, why not just have it so only friends can see your site? Do you have it set so that your site can’t be cataloged by Google?
