The dilemma

This animal rescue league board member thing is probably akin to taking a small child into a candy store.  I was on the web site last night where I meandered over to the pets for adoption and found an adorable black cat…”he” has been adament that he doesn’t want another cat; but, I’ve been trying to wear him down.  When I got home tonight, I told him I had been back in the cat rooms after the meeting – he said  – hmmmm where are you going to live…..

Desi..is black with a white chest and white paws…oh my goodness.

I asked him if he would at least go in with me and meet Desi and he said…NINA GO AHEAD AND GET HIM.  The family is on “his” side even though none of them live at home…”he” loves Benny and Billy..he is just content…I just want one more…this one will be the same color as devil dog.  Dumb reason.  I can’t stand to think of euthanasia but I can’t rescue them all – I know this already….I’m struggling tonight trying to figure out what to do…for those of you who don’t know “him”, please know that he will love this cat as much as he loves all of the other critters..he just doesn’t want 3 cats.  That is his reason.  I wanted to get a black cat when I brought Benny home but Benny was so needy and won my heart…

So the inner struggle continues 😦

  1. Three cats is not bad. You can always reassure him that you are not as bad as “some people”. “Some people” being us. We have five cats. Yes, five. In the house. We also have two dachshunds and my son is getting a tortoise, so it’s literally like living in a zoo. It’s a lot of work, but they make us happy. All the cats have distinct and interesting personalities, they’re fun to watch. Animal lovers understand what you’re going through. You should go get your new kitty, and good luck with your big family!-Miranda

That was so nice of him( I guess he is ana animal lover too)

  5. Well, what’s one more? I have four cats at the moment– had five at one point– all of them “turnups.” Some of us are just compelled to take care of them… even if we can’t take care of them ALL.

  6. It always starts with one.. then you need another to keep that one not lonely then you see a stray and your heart just feels so sad and then someone whom I won’t mention brings home another one because she was a stray by the donut shop and needed love…. ain’t she cute… went on vacation a month later.   she had one kitten…. yup it always starts with one.   I love them a lot but I just can’t do cats anymore…my spoiled dog is about as much as I can handle now.   the kitten was black we named him Mikey (after that cereal commerical…. mikey will eat it)  yup mikey was a huge cat at least 25 pounds and when he ran he sounded like a horse.   he was a nice cat not like his mother whom as a real female dog.  he died a few months before our son was born.   the last one dying about 11 years ago.  you have a sweet heart …. bless you.

  8. I stopped persuing being a volunteer @ the shelter for just that reason.  I would end up with a houseful.  As it is we got my “mamma” cat back – so now I’m back to 3.  She doesn’t like the other 2, who get along quite well, but she is beginning to make herself at home again, so for now I’m in wait and see mode.  Good luck with your struggle. I feel ya.

  9. I would have a very hard time resisting any of the animals.  I will never forget that when we went to “the pound” to adopt a dog when I was a kid, all of the dogs begged for love and attention, doing anything possible to get close enough for human contact, a pat or kind word.  It was heartbreaking. That’s where we always got our animals, and I could hardly bear to go, knowing what happened to the ones left behind.  I think if people saw that for themselves, they would never abandon an animal.
