I had kind of a busy midnight shift. Nothing overwhelming but just steady. I did find myself in a controlled rage about 5:30 this morning when a woman called because her x kept beating on her mobile home door. She was workable hysterical…as a side note…there are several types of hysterical.
Workable hysteria – they are very upset – usually crying and usually hard to understand thru their crying but you can generally get the information that you need.
Non-workable hysteria. Screaming – moaning – back to screaming – it is damn near impossible for them to speak rationally and it takes a lot of repetitive persistence to get information.
Re-hysteria – these are the folks that revert back to a freaked out stage when something new happens – especially if you don’t keep them busy answering questions or doing something – you can’t give them time to actually “think”. Usually when help arrives in whatever forms – they revert back to hysteria.
Non-hysteria…these are the folks that call with total mind boggling problems and are calm – “911 where is your emergency” ‘I just killed my wife’, “where is your wife, sir” ‘at the bottom of the steps’ – totally calm.
Anyway – she was physically challenged from an accident with a drunk driver. She marries this guy and has no idea that he is a substance abuser and a woman abuser. He was just in jail 7 days ago after throwing her around the room. She was terrified. The husband is living nearby with his mother and kept walking from mother’s mobile home to the victims’ mobile home – beating on the windows and then leaving. I talked to her until an officer arrived on scene. She was absolutely despondent…she said when she married him she had no idea he was this kind of person. She stuck by him thru rehab because she believed in him…but he got out and started up again. These are folks my age…listening to her – I just felt rage…I personally wanted to go over there and kick his ass or better yet – watch some burly dude scare him for awhile and then kick his ass. The poor women lives in constant fear never knowing what will set him off.
I stayed after work for awhile in order to watch a cell extraction in the jail on camera. Some probably crazed idiot with a drug addled mind woke up this morning – decided to break his coffee cup – threatened a deputy with it through the window and proceeded to rant and rave and scream and holler and jump around…I wanted to watch them go in and get him out. As more and more officers show up, I ponder – what is he thinking…does he actually think he is going to accomplish some physical feat with these well trained officers that carry tazers. My second question – why does anyone really want to be an officer of the law and have to deal with this crap… knowing that he could be injured, stabbed, killed by these animals. Don’t know. Just glad they do it. Didn’t really get to see much – he was up ranting – they spoke to him thru the door and asked him nicely to comply and then they all went thru the door with shields – and they won. What a life.
I’m off to bed…one more night of work before I’m free for 12 days!!!
Night….
